Authentication
Authentication is often the first step, but definitely the most important, in the field of security in general and of Internet security in particular. How can one be sure a contractual instrument is valid, i.e., simply set down the bases of business, if the signatory and his powers cannot be identified? And in real time too!
EREGEX uses a full range of authentication systems: identifier/password, electronic signature or silicon sensor mouse (biometrics) for the more sensitive exchanges, which will soon become the standard for B to B transactions.
It is clear that the simplest and effective technology to authenticate hundreds of million users in real time everywhere in the whole world is the technology protected by international patent with authentification by confidential code envoyed by SMS following an access request. It is the most universal technology, surest and most flexible for the users, who allows to be authenticated from any computer, even if it is not yours.
Il is always possible to install a Spyware on your computer to recover your access codes on line. But it is very difficult, nearly impossible, to manage to conceal at the same time your Internet access codes + the temporary access code (valid 2 minutes) which you receive by SMS on your portable telephone for each request of protected connection.
-> Time-dating
Time-dating is used systematically on EREGEX platform and consists in associating all the events or operations irrevocably with a time/date derived from a reliable and authentic source.
For transactions or message transmissions to have a legal value that is above reproach, each event occurring on the platform is recorded, “logged” and entered into a time-dating flow record to guarantee the time factor in the transaction chain. EREGEX servers are synchronized with the atomic clock at Meudon (France).
-> Filing
EREGEX files the content of each document passing through its platform with all the information concerning its traceability. In addition, for a traditional postal transmission, the container is certified whereas, with EREGEX, the container and the content of the documents are certified.
All the filed data is available instantly for checking purposes and EREGEX agrees to restore entirely to the specifier or to his assigns, at the end of the contract, or in the event of stoppage of activity by them, the electronic files without preserving a copy of them.
-> Traceability
Traceability is a very important concept in the current business procedures. It is a way of checking the transparency and conformity of the transactions with the business scenario, the audit of each transaction, the instant reactivity to a potential dispute, the composition of statistics, the analysis of behavior, etc.
On EREGEX platform, a tracking number is given to each transaction or data transmission so as to be able to follow the flows from their origin to their destination and compare between documents (for instance between the content and the acknowledgement of receipt for registered letters).
Traceability is all the more essential in that there is a general toughening up on the international regulatory demands with respect to the banks (Cooke ratio) and of the listed companies (IAS 39 and FAS 133), to endorse commercial transactions on financial instruments and the corresponding monetary flows.
The EREGEX coordination platform, by recording ramifications for each business transaction (for instance between an order form, a delivery form, a letter of credit, a bank payment, etc), will give the companies the means of accurately calculating their operational risks and the financial results of each transaction.
-> Integrity
The integrity of the exchange messages concerned protection between accidental or deliberate alteration of a transmitted message. In reality, it is impossible to prevent a message being modified by a malicious user, or by the alteration of the data; conversely, on reception of the message it is possible to know whether it has been modified or not.
The electronic signature is the only legally recognized cryptographic means (European directive of 13 Dec 1999) allowing an electronic written document to assume the same value of proof as a written document on paper, thanks to the exchange integrity and non-repudiation service.
Traditionally, the signature is aimed at ensuring to functions: identifying the signatory and guaranteeing that he is committed to the document being transferred. A third function of the digital signature, related to the basics of the electronic environment, is also required: that of maintaining the integrity of the insurance.
As Mail Trusted Third Party, the EREGEX platform is new full color in charge of recording and validating the transactions, and is responsible for integrity and completeness checks related to the exchanged data. In this way in a PKI (Public Key Infrastructure) environment, EREGEX platform ciphers the hash for the recipient (fingerprint of the transmitted document), using the public Key of the signatory to verify that the data transiting between parties has not been altered during transmission.
-> Confidentiality
Information transmission must be secure meaning that the information must be absolutely confidential. Confidentiality concerns protection against the unauthorized consulting of stored or exchanged data. Tools are used for guaranteeing confidentiality (based on ciphering) and have been around for a long time.
EREGEX ensures that the exchanges are confidential by evaluating the data during their transmission or by having them transit through a secure and dedicated route that is only accessible to users who have previously been checked.
When the data are received at EREGEX notarization platform, the platform is not designed to check the content of the transmitted documents with respect to the law or contract governing the relations between the parties. The purpose of EREGEX platform is to certify the existence of a transaction between the sender and the recipient and to verify the conformity of the operations with a preestablished scenario.
In this way, EREGEX (Mail Trusted Third Party) refers to the data travelling over the platform unless expressly requested to do so by the specifier. The data is thus filed and ciphered on EREGEX servers and their access comes under the strong authentication procedures of the Electronic Certificate.
Data filing is therefore carried out in compliance with the current national rules for the protection and confidentiality of personal information.
-> Non-repudiation
Non-repudiation could be described as the fact of giving one of the participants of an exchange protection in the event of the other participant wanting to dispute the termination of the transaction. For instance, a client denies having ordered goods because he changes his opinion or a trader denies having received payment in an attempt to be paid twice.
The use of the electronic signature provides guarantees that can be qualified as superior in terms of integrity and non-repudiation prepared to traditional paper exchanges.
EREGEX platform thus endeavours to generate electronic elements of proof to protect the parties against repudiation of transactions, in particular by encouraging end to end dematerialisation in a PKI (Public Key Infrastructure) environment.
